CANVAS AND MATTE INSTRUCTIONS
Handling:
Consult with and use a professional paperhanger. Pre-Pasted wallpaper has a tedency to be more delicate than standard wallpaper. Handle with care. Do not use tape on image surfaces. Be sure to avoid creasing or sharp folds at any point as this will damage the print. Please read instructions before beginning the installation.
Wall Preparation:
Due to its lighter weight, this wallpaper option has to be installed on very smooth, pristine walls. It is not meant to hide divots or flaws. Prepped and primed walls are necessary for all of our products, but it is especially important with this specific option. Make sure surfaces are smooth, clean and dry prior to application. Lightly sand the walls and make any necessary repairs to cracks, holes, or imperfections. Always seal the wall with a clear primer-sealer, such as Zinsser Gardz® or RomanTM Rx-35. Primers not only seal the wall, but they also provide more “wet time” for working. Primer promotes proper wallpaper adhesion and allows for easy removal. After priming, please wait at least 24 hours before beginning the installation.
Hanging:
Your panels will be labeled and packed in order. Refer to your print plan and start with Panel 1. Spray water evenly to the back of the wallpaper until saturated, making sure to coat the edges. Without making a crease, fold each end of the wallpaper toward the middle, pasted sides together, paying close attention that your edges are lined up to avoid drying. Book the wallpaper for 2-4 minutes to allow adhesive activation and paper expansion of up to 1/4“. You will spray, book, and install one panel at a time.
Hang wallpaper panels using standard procedures. Level the first panel to ensure a straight line and proper pattern match. Keep in mind the perimeter of the wallpaper is printed with 2” of bleed on each side and 1” overlap at the seams between panels. Use a smoothing brush (not a squeegee) to lay down panels starting from the top and working down. During the hanging process, you may find it necessary to spray the edges of the paper again. Smooth out air pockets and bubbles using upward and downward motions only. Although it is not ideal, pop persistent bubbles with a pin if they won’t go away. Only do this if the paste hasn’t dried. Do not overwork the panels as this could cause damage to the print. Using a straight-edge and a fresh blade, trim the top and bottom of each panel to remove excess/bleed. With clean water and a sponge, wipe down the wallpaper and dry with a towel. Avoid aggressive rubbing. Repeat these same steps as you install subsequent wallpaper panels.
Cutting:
Wallpaper panels need to be double-cut at the seam, as they come with a 1" overlap between panels. Overlap the panels along the pattern match. Using a straight-edge, double-cut the seam with a fresh blade. Gently remove excess wallpaper from the seam. Roll the seam with a seam-roller. Never over-work the seam as this could damage the print. Overlapping the seam without double-cutting is not recommended.
Cleaning & Maintenance:
To remove dust, dirt, and grease, clean with a lightly dampened cloth or sponge with warm water. Use water sparingly and do not get overly wet. Clean the walls from the top down, using vertical motions. Pat gently with a clean soft cloth or bath towel to remove any surface moisture. Avoid aggressive rubbing. Do not use cleaners with harsh solvents as it can cause damage to your wallpaper.
Disclaimer:
Please handle wallpaper with care and inspect all panels before installation. Do not fold or crease the panels during installation. Creased or folded panels will cause separation and damage the material. Any problems that occur during the preparation or installation process are not the responsibility of Totally Custom Wallpaper.
